Copy trading at prop firms: your own accounts vs other people's trades
Most firms let you mirror trades between accounts you own — and almost none let you copy anyone else. The details in between (account types, 30-minute windows, approved copiers) are where traders get flagged.

Running several prop accounts at once is common, and so is wanting one set of trades to land on all of them. Whether that's allowed depends on two questions: who owns the accounts, and which type of account you're copying into.
This is a neutral explainer built from the copy-trading rules we track for each firm. Rules change, so confirm the current terms for your exact product before you connect a copier. See copy trading in our glossary for the short definition.
The line almost every firm draws
Across the firms we cover, one rule is close to universal: copying between different people is banned. That includes relatives, friends, signal groups, paid "pass your challenge" services, and anyone else trading on your account. Several firms say explicitly that family members count as separate people.
Where firms differ is what you can do within your own accounts.
Firms that allow copying between your own accounts
- Upcomers — replicating trades across accounts you personally own is allowed, including accounts at other firms or brokers.
- BrightFunded — same-person copying allowed across BrightFunded, other evaluation firms and retail accounts. Similar trading patterns between different people can trigger profit deductions, resets or closure.
- E8 Markets — allowed across your own accounts, but each account must still be traded independently.
- Blueberry Funded — allowed between your own Blueberry accounts; external copying ends the account immediately.
- City Traders Imperium — you can run the same EA on multiple accounts you manage; sharing or renting it is banned.
- Futures firms — Topstep builds copy trading into TopstepX (lead and follower accounts). Apex Trader Funding supports its own multi-account copier, and Take Profit Trader permits copiers only for accounts you own and control.
Firms that allow it with conditions
These are the rules most likely to catch a multi-account trader out:
- FundedNext — own-account copying is allowed only between Challenge accounts.
- Top One Trader — manual copying between your own Challenge accounts only; banned on Funded and Instant accounts. Identical trades within 30 minutes across your own funded accounts are flagged.
- For Traders — trading the same pair across your own accounts needs at least a 30-minute gap between entries, or it counts as copy trading.
- Crypto Fund Trader — depends on the product: banned even between your own Ascend accounts, allowed between your own Break evaluation accounts but not on Break Final Stage.
Firms that ban copy trading outright
- FundingPips, The5ers and Alpha Capital Group prohibit copy trading and third-party account management. Alpha's "no group trading" policy also covers several traders running the same EA.
- Maven Trading bans trade copiers entirely.
- Funded Trading Plus bans using EAs to copy positions across multiple FT+ accounts.
- Fintokei bans signal-provider copying and copier tools. Acting on ideas you got from someone else is fine only if you aren't syncing their trades in real time.
- FTMO bans any third party trading your account, and notes that running the same EA as many other traders can breach its maximum capital allocation.
The trap next to copy trading: opposite positions
Several firms treat hedging across accounts as a more serious problem than copying. Funded Trading Plus and Maven call opposite positions on different accounts cheating. Topstep and Take Profit Trader ban offsetting or coordinated positions meant to neutralise risk. Copying the same direction to your own accounts can be fine. Taking the opposite direction on another account almost never is. Our banned strategies explainer covers the wider list.
A quick checklist before you connect a copier
- Are all accounts in your name only?
- Does the rule apply to evaluation, funded and instant accounts equally?
- Is there a time-gap rule for identical trades?
- Does the firm require an approved copier or its own tool?
- If an EA does the copying, check the firm's automation rules too.
Key takeaways
- Copying between different people (family included) is banned at virtually every firm we track.
- Own-account copying ranges from allowed (Upcomers, BrightFunded, Topstep) to evaluation-only (FundedNext, Top One Trader) to fully banned (FundingPips, Maven).
- Watch for 30-minute identical-trade windows and account-type carve-outs.
- Opposite positions across accounts are treated as cheating far more often than same-direction copying.
